Charred body discovered in burnt out car in Miri

MIRI: A charred body was found in the backseat of a burnt out car at Taman Tunku here at about 2:30am this morning.

The Miri Fire and Rescue station received a distress call from the public at 1:50am about a car on fire, and despatched eight firefighters to the scene.

"Once we put out the fire, we found a body in the backseat of the Kia Optima," said a station spokesman.

"We alerted the police and handed the case to them. The body was taken to the Miri hospital for a post-mortem," he added.

The spokesman said the car was completely destroyed. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Authorities have yet to confirm the identity of the body and cause of death.
