KUCHING: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has arrested 10 immigration officers for allegedly accepting bribes to protect illegal immigrants in Sarawak.
The officers, including six women, were arrested during a special operation launched by the MACC headquarters in Putrajaya today.
They were picked up from four locations at the Sarawak Immigration Department headquarters, the department office in Pending, the immigration detention depot in Serian and the Kuching International Airport here.
"The officers, aged between 33 and 53, are expected to be remanded tomorrow to facilitate investigation into the case," sources close to the investigation team told the New Straits Times.
MACC deputy commissioner Datuk Azam Baki, when contacted, confirmed the arrests.
State Immigration Department director Ken Leben could not be reached for comment.
