Three immigration officers remanded for alleged bribery

IPOH: Three officers from the Perak Immigration Department (JIM) are among four individuals remanded for two days to assist the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission in an investigation related to bribery involving the Migrant Repatriation Programme (PRM).

The remand order, effective from today until tomorrow, was granted by magistrate Siti Nora Shariff at the Magistrate's Court here.

It is understood that the three public servants from JIM hold positions as superintendent (KP42) and immigration officers with ranks KP19 and KP22.

The immigration officers and a foreign worker agent, comprising three men and one woman, were arrested while providing statements at the Perak MACC office between yesterday afternoon and last night.

They are suspected of being involved in soliciting and receiving bribes ranging from RM50 to RM300 from each foreign worker seeking to return to their home country voluntarily through the PRM.

The bribes were allegedly taken in exchange for expediting programme approvals, with such activities detected between March and September 2024.

Perak MACC director, Datuk Ahmad Sabri Mohamed, confirmed the arrests when contacted, saying that the investigation is being conducted under Section 17(a) of the MACC Act 2009.
