IPOH: Police have yet to receive any permit application for a public debate between Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and Tourism and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri Aziz, reportedly scheduled take place here on March 25.
State acting police chief Datuk Hasnan Hassan said no application has been submitted by either party for the debate which, it is understood, is set to take place at the Sultan Azlan Shah MRSM at 3pm.
He warned the public against attending the event.
"Schools are among prohibited venues for such an assembly.
"Stern action will be taken against those attending the illegal assembly under Section 9(5) Peaceful Assembly Act," Hasnan said in a statement today.
It was reported that Nazri had confirmed the debate.
Under the Peaceful Assembly Act, a permit can only be issued once the organiser obtains permission from the police and the owner of the venue.
Schools, hospitals, railways, airports, and places of worship are among the prohibited areas for any assembly under the Act.
