KLIA baggage woes delay 50 flights, leaving more than 1,500 passengers affected

PUTRAJAYA: More than 1,500 passengers were affected when 50 flights out of the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) were delayed this morning due to baggage handling issues.

The problems began at 7.30am today due to a shortage of baggage handlers by the ground handling services company AeroDarat Services.

Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) managing director Datuk Badlisham Ghazali the problem was triggered by a change of shift patterns and rosters on the ground handlers’ part.

"Many workers didn't turn up to work today, which caused a shortage of manpower, which then led to the delay in handling passengers' baggage," he told the New Straits Times.

He said the flight delays, involving domestic and international passengers, ranged between 10 minutes to an hour.

MAHB, said Badlisham, is assisting the ground handlers to overcome the issue.

“The problem is expected to be resolved by the end of the day,” he said.

In a posting on its Facebook page, MAHB advised passengers to contact their respective airlines should they experience any delays.
