In face of cyber-age slander, Zahid calls for Muslims to embrace Quranic way of life

MALACCA: Cyber threats are more than just acts of terror, but threats via communication technology that spread slander and perception that can cause disharmony, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said tonight, in urging Muslims to embrace the Quranic way of life.

"In such circumstances, we should go back to the teachings of the Quran, which propagates unity and tolerance," said Zahid, when launching the National-level Quran Tilawah and Recital Congress at the Seri Negeri Hall here.

Also present were Chief Minister Datuk Seri Idris Haron, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Jamil Khir Baharom and their wives.

Zahid said the Quranic way of life, in which culture and personalities are guided by the Quran, would form strong basis for unity which would withstand such threats.

"Through the technology available now, there are many ways by which we are infiltrated and misguided. If we abide by the teachings of the Quran, then we will not be swayed as we would already accept its teachings.

"A person who does not practice our principles and our way of life, cannot then come and tell us a different way or a something that is not in line with what we practice," said Zahid.

"They can only do this if we are weak. When they see we are weak, they can cause disunity and separate us into various boxes.

"We should always go back to the teachings of the Quran when we are faced with such actions. When we are a Quranic ummah, then we will realise that it brings unity and with it peace."
