KUALA LUMPUR: Seputeh MP Teresa Kok has filed a defamation suit against former Sungai Besar Umno division chief and Red Shirts leader, Datuk Seri Jamal Yunos, over a statement he made on the Yayasan Warisan Anak Selangor (YAWAS) fund.
The suit was filed on Wednesday at the High Court registry by Kok's lawyer, S N Nair, and the documents were provided to the media this morning.
In her statement of claim, Kok said that at a press conference on March 8, 2017, Jamal had stated that she had embezzled money from the Selangor state fund.
A video clip of the press conference was also uploaded to Jamal’s personal Facebook account.
Kok, 53, is claiming more than RM1 million in general damages, along with compensatory, aggravated and exemplary damages, and an injunction to prevent Jamal, 47, from repeating or spreading the allegations.
She also said that she never misappropriated the public funds, as alleged by Jamal.
Kok is also seeking costs and other reliefs fixed by the court.
