SHAH ALAM: A foreign man in his 30s was killed in a shootout with police in Jalan Bukit Puchong, Bandar Bukit Puchong early this morning.
Selangor police chief Datuk Seri Abdul Samah Mat said the shooting took place at about 3.50am when the man ignored calls by three Criminal Investigation Department personnel to surrender.
Samah said his men were on patrol in the area, where early morning robberies frequently took place.
That was when they came across the man and a passenger acting suspiciously in a Proton Wira.
"My men had asked the man to stop the vehicle but he sped off instead. There was a chase and not far from the location where they were first asked to stop, the Proton Wira skidded.
"The passenger fled the scene while the man got out of the car.
"When he was asked to surrender, a gun shot was heard. A shootout took place and the man was shot dead at the scene.
"We have yet to ascertain the dead man's identity and nationality. Early investigations showed that he was in his 30s and a foreigner but we are still verifying that.
"We are also checking if he was involved in criminal activities. My men are also hunting down the other person who fled the scene," said Samah.
Samah said they recovered a .38 Smith & Wesson revolver containing two bullets. Also seized were a parang as well as two fake car registration plates, suspected of being used for criminal activities, from the Proton Wira.
He added that checks on the Proton Wira showed that it was registered under an Indonesian who has permanent resident status here.
Samah was met after the 210th Police Day celebrations at Shah Alam Hospital today.
