Footballer Francis Forkey Doe fined RM6,000 for using cloned car

PETALING JAYA: Selangor football striker, Francis Forkey Doe was today fined RM6,000 in default six months' jail by the magistrate's court for displaying false registration number on his vehicle.

The 31-year-old Liberian national pleaded guilty to displaying the false number plates on his BMW 325i in a parking lot in front of Restaurant Alfa Maju, Jalan Puteri 1/6, Bandar Puteri Puchong, near here at 4am on May 5.

He was charged under Section 108(3)(f) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

The Malaysian Premier League player, who was unrepresented, told the court that he was truly sorry of his actions and apologised a few times to magistrate Atiqah Abd Karim@Husaini.

"I am sorry for my mistake. I am a professional football player who plays football to entertain people.

"Please be lenient in your judgement," said Doe.

Deputy public prosecutor Abu Arsalnaa Zainal Abidin, who requested the court to impose a deterrent sentence on Doe, said cloning of cars was a rampant crime.

"Imagine the trauma which the victim who is the registered owner of the car, undergoes when his car is cloned.

"The court should impose a sentence befitting to the crime committed."

It was reported a professional football player with a local club was detained by police for alleged possession of a cloned BMW sedan.

The arrest was made after a team from the Puchong Jaya police station inspected the 31-year-old's BMW 325i, which was parked in Bandar Puteri Puchong.
