Tawau cops bust 4 men hiding syabu worth RM270,000 in hotel room

TAWAU: Police apprehended four local men in possession of 3.87 kilogrammes of syabu hidden inside four Chinese tea packages at a hotel here last night.

The suspects, aged between 31 and 61, were nabbed in the 10.30pm operation based on a public tip-off and police intelligence.

“The raid conducted by our Narcotics Crimes Investigation Department and strike team under ‘Ops Bayu’ saw one suspect detained at the hotel lobby, and the remaining three nabbed outside the building and in a vehicle parked nearby.

“An inspection found the first suspect in possession of a hotel room access card. Upon inspecting the hotel room, a bag was found containing the four Chinese tea packages.

“Based on early estimates, the drugs seized are worth RM270,900,” said district police chief Assistant Commissioner Fadil Marsus.

The suspects – three traders and an unemployed man – were brought to the Tawau district police station for further investigation.
