SIBU: Police today obtained remand orders against three people arrested in connection with two incest cases in Sibu and Sarikei.
In the first case, police obtained a seven-day remand at the magistrate's court here today against an unemployed man as well as his son.
The man was previously convicted of raping his daughter.
Both father and son, aged 53 and 25, respectively, were arrested yesterday for allegedly raping a member of the family.
Their victim is a seven-year-old girl, who is the granddaughter of the first suspect and niece of the second suspect.
The case came to light when the little girl related her ordeal to her mother, who had been living separately with her daughter since her divorce from her husband.
The girl claimed that she had been repeatedly raped by the two men since last year.
It was learnt that the girl's grandfather had just completed his jail sentence in August last year after he was convicted of raping his own daughter in 2008.
Meanwhile, in another case, police obtained a five-day remand for a man suspected of having raped his 15-year-old daughter in Sarikei.
State Criminal Investigation Department chief Datuk Dev Kumar said the victim, who is studying at a boarding school in Sungai Paoh, had claimed that she had been raped by her father, 38, since last month.
“All three suspects have been remanded to facilitate police investigation into the cases,” he said.
The arrest and remand of the three are the latest in a series of rape and incest cases to have hit Sarawak.
Yesterday, the Betong Sessions Court sentenced a 49-year-old farmer to 22 years’ jail and 20 strokes of the rotan after he pleaded guilty to six charges of committing incest and outraging the modesty of his daughter between Sept 2014 until July this year.
The victim was 12 when she was sexually assaulted for the first time three years ago.
