IPOH: Police have detained a 30-year-old babysitter today following the death of a two-year-old girl.
Perak police chief Datuk Azizi Mat Aris said that police received a report from the girl's father on Monday at 7.20pm after he found his daughter unconscious at the babysitter's house.
Azizi said the victim was then rushed to Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital here for further examination.
"However, on the next day, at about 11.10pm, police were informed by the paediatricians that the girl had died.
"A post-mortem was conducted today at 10.45am and the cause of death was determined to be a head injury due to blunt trauma," he said in a statement today.
Azizi said the investigation is still ongoing, and police will take statements from witnesses involved in this case.
The case is being investigated under Section 31(1)(a) of the Children Act 2001 for ill-treatment, neglect, abandonment, or exposure of children, which carries a maximum fine of RM50,000 or 20 years' imprisonment, or both, upon conviction.
Azizi said the police take this incident seriously and call on people not to engage in illegal actions or speculate about the case.
"Anyone with information about the case could contact the District Criminal Investigation Department to assist in the investigation," he added.
