SERIAN: A primary school teacher has been arrested for allegedly molesting two of his pupils, both boys, in May and August this year.
The 37-year-old suspect was nabbed when he was summoned to the Serian district police headquarters here at about 3pm today.
Sarawak Criminal Investigations Department chief Datuk Dev Kumar said the suspect had allegedly molested the first victim, a Year Five pupil, about five months ago.
“The first victim claimed he was instructed by the suspect to go to the school’s Student Affairs Department office.
“Once there, the suspect locked the room and molested the 10-year-old victim,” Dev said in a statement.
The suspect later tried to lure another victim, also of the same age, by summoning the boy to the storeroom at the school.
“Upon reaching at the storeroom, the suspect ran towards the victim and tried to molest him.
“The boy, however, put on a resistance, fled the scene and returned to the classroom,” Dev added.
He said the boys' parents claimed they had filed a report against the suspect with the school's administration but no action was taken.
Unhappy by the school’s silence, they took their sons to a nearby police station and lodged police reports.
“We have reason to believe there may be more victims,” he said without elaborating.
The case, said Dev, is being investigated under Section 14(a), (b) and (d) of the Sexual Crimes Against Children Act 2017.
The suspect is expected to be produced at the Serian’s Session Court here tomorrow for remand.
