Police to haul up Jamal Yunos over beer-smashing stunt

SHAH ALAM: Datuk Seri Jamal Md Yunos will be hauled up by the police for leading a protest which saw him smashing crates of beer in protest of the Better Beer Festival 2017 at the Selangor state secretariat building (SUK) today.

The Malaysian NGOs Coalition chairman will be investigated under Section 143 of the Penal Code for being a member of an unlawful assembly and Section 268 of the Penal Code for public nuisance.

Shah Alam district police chief Shafien Mamat said they are in the midst of tracking down Jamal, who is also Sungai Besar Umno division chief.

“We are looking for Jamal and his supporters who were involved in the protest this morning. We will be contacting him and will ask that he and his people come to the Shah Alam district police headquarters," Shafien told the New Straits Times.

Jamal was barred by security guards from entering the SUK to deliver the beer crates to Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Azmin Ali.

He dropped two bottles of beer at the gate when he was prevented from entering.

He then stacked the crates of beer at the gate, on which he had stuck Better Beer Festival logos, and proceeded to smash them repeatedly with a sledgehammer, leaving the building’s entrance littered with debris and spilt beer.

He then walked off and headed to his MPV, leaving the scene without saying a word.
