KUALA LUMPUR: Sepang member of parliament Datuk Aiman Athirah Sabu was not informed about contributors to the construction of a hall for SJK(C) Tche Min, which allegedly included a beer company.
A post on the Pusat Khidmat Rakyat Parlimen Sepang Facebook page said Aiman Athirah was aware of viral photos showing her, other contributors and a mock cheque for a RM3 million contribution from a beer company at an event at the school.
The post said the MP was invited to a charity concert held by the school as she was one of the contributors to the fund for the construction of a hall for the three-decade-old school.
"Invitations were extended by the school management board to all contributors, including Aiman Athirah, who donated RM100,000," the post read.
It said the other contributors included a beer company, which donated RM3 million.
It said contributors paid for a total of 160 tables at the event to raise funds for the construction project.
"The organiser did not inform attendees about the other contributors until the day of the event."
The programme was officiated by a representative of Selangor state executive councillor Datuk Ng Suee Lim. Sungai Pelek assemblyman Lwi Kian Keong also attended.
The post said the school management board invited all contributors to participate in an appreciation ceremony on stage that included a photo session.
It said efforts to improve education in Sepang were overshadowed by the viral photos involving the beer company.
"Aiman Athirah's priority on the day of the event was to support the efforts of the school management board in raising funds to build a more comfortable hall for the students.
"It has been Aiman Athirah's practice to attend events organised by schools or parent-teacher associations as part of her commitment to education issues."
The post said up to July 14, the Sepang MP's office had spent RM1.2 million on education, which is almost half of the fund it received from the prime minister's special allocation and the Mesra Rakyat programme.
It said SK Sungai Lang received RM150,000, Sekolah KAFA Desa Pinggiran Putra RM200,000 and SMK Putra Perdana RM130,000.
