KANGAR: In a fit of anger, a passenger of an express bus, left behind when he stepped out of the bus to answer the call of nature in Alor Star, boarded a taxi, chased after the bus and attacked the bus driver with a knife the moment the bus pulled in at the bus terminal here.
The 10.30am incident took place in front of 16 other passengers on the bus.
Kangar district police chief Superintendent Wari Kiew said the 33-year-old express bus driver was ferrying 17 passengers from Larkin, Johor to Perlis prior to the incident.
He said based on initial investigation, the bus driver Mohd Fakhri Yahya had pulled over at the Shahab Perdana bus terminal in Alor Star, where one of the passengers had gone down from the bus to use the restroom.
It was learnt that the driver did not notice that the passenger had not boarded and he resumed the journey to Kangar.
Furious that he was abandoned by the driver, the man boarded a taxi and told the driver to tail the bus.
"As soon as the bus arrived at the Kangar bus terminal, the man barged into the bus and stabbed the driver with a knife in front of the other passengers before fleeing the scene.
"The driver was rushed to the Tuanku Fauziah Hospital where he received three stitches for a 3cm deep stab wound on his left shoulder," he said in a statement here.
Wari said police also seized the knife used in the attack and the luggage belonged to the suspect.
He added that police have identified the suspect and are tracking him down.
