Woman claims molested by express bus second driver

CHUKAI: A woman has alleged that she was molested by the second driver of an express bus while travelling from Kuala Terengganu to Kuala Lumpur in the middle of the night.

Kemaman police chief Superintendent Hanyan Ramlan said that during the incident, the 23-year-old victim, who works as a salesperson in Marang, Terengganu, was on the upper deck of the bus.

The victim boarded the bus in Kuala Terengganu at 10.15pm, and during the journey, she was awakened by the suspect's actions at around 11.30pm.

"The victim felt someone pulling her left arm and discovered that it was the second driver of the bus, whom she recognised.

"At the time of the incident, the victim claims that the bus was at the Chukai Kemaman Toll Plaza," he said.

Hanyan said that the victim felt as if the suspect was doing something inappropriate to her.

"As soon as she opened her eyes, the victim immediately screamed and pushed the suspect's hand away, at which point the suspect stopped his actions.

"The victim noticed that the suspect had not yet left and was sitting next to her before he finally left when the bus stopped at the Chenor Pahang Rest and Service Area (R&R)," he added.

At the time of the incident, there were only three passengers on the upper deck of the bus, and the complainant recognised the suspect from previous bus rides.

"The complainant arrived at Terminal Bersepadu Selatan (TBS) in Kuala Lumpur at 4 a.m. before heading to the Salak Selatan Baru Police Station to file a report.

"A search and apprehension operation for the bus driver involved is currently underway, and the case will be investigated under Section 354 of the Penal Code," said Hanyan.
