KUALA LUMPUR: An immigration officer pleaded not guilty in the Cyber Court here today on a charge of performing invalid and unauthorised modifications to the myIMMS system in June last year.
Yusri Yahya, 36, made the plea after the charge was read to him before Judge Zaman Mohd Noor.
The civil servant was accused of modifying the myIMMS computer system which involved transactions of foreign worker passes with the knowledge that it was illegal for him to do so.
He allegedly committed the offence at the Information Technology and Records Division, Immigration Department of Malaysia, Level 6, Persiaran Perdana, Precinct 2, Putrajaya, between 4.07 am on June 1, 2016 and 11.20 pm on June 8, 2016.
The officer, who is currently attached at the Senawang District Immigration Department, Negeri Sembilan, was charged under Section 5 of the Computer Crimes Act 1997 which carries a maximum fine of RM100,000, or imprisonment of up to seven years, or both, upon conviction.
Deputy public prosecutor Amira Sariaty Zainal proposed bail at RM6,000 in one surety, but Yusri, who was represented by lawyer Luqman Hakim Azhar, sought a lower bail on the grounds that he was unable to afford it, with a wife, two children and his parents to care for.
The court allowed the accused bail at RM2,500 in one surety, with additional conditions to surrender his passport to the court.
