NIBONG TEBAL: Police have opened up three investigation papers in connection to the case of a Form Two student who committed suicide after being accused of stealing her teacher's iPhone last week.
Seberang Prai Selatan district police chief Superintendent Shafee Abd Samad said the three investigation papers had been submitted to the state deputy public prosecutor’s office and police are awaiting a response.
He said one of the investigation papers submitted was opened under Section 309 of the Penal Code for attempted suicide.
He declined to reveal details of the other two.
"We have suggested the suitable sections to be opened for investigation into the case.
“It is now up to the deputy public prosecutor for the next course of action.
"I am not sure if the teacher, blamed for causing the girl’s death, will be charged. It depends on the prosecution through an inquest procedure depending on the coroner's report," he said today.
M. Vasanthapiriya attempted suicide last Wednesday after she was accused of stealing her teacher's iPhone at the school in Nibong Tebal.
She was initially interrogated by three teachers but had vehemently denied stealing it.
Later that night, she committed suicide at her home but was saved by her father R. Muniandy, 54, after he was alerted by his other daughter.
Vasanthapiriya died on Thursday morning without regaining consciousness.
