BUKIT MERTAJAM: The post-mortem on the 47-day-old baby who died after being abused by her parents will continue tomorrow as there were signs of bite marks on her body.
Seberang Prai Tengah district police chief Assistant Commissioner Nik Ros Azhan Nik Ab Hamid said that the procedure today had to be stopped while waiting for experts to study the marks the baby’s hands.
Yesterday, police revealed that the infant died due to internal bleeding in the head.
The post-mortem also found several bruises and scratches on the body including head, face, mouth, arms and legs, and her private part.
Nik Ros said there were also traces of bleeding under the skin on the head and the brain.
“The baby’s brain was swollen due to the bleeding. There were also several fractured ribs which were healing as well as freshly broken left thigh bone,” he said.
It was believed that the victim sustained the injuries due to being hit by a blunt hard object.
The baby died due to suspected abuse by her family in Kampung Tok Panjang.
On the morning of Feb 15, the baby was taken to a nearby clinic by her parents who found her unconscious. However, she was pronounced dead soon after.
Both the parents, aged 22, were remanded for seven days to assist in investigations.
The remand order was issued by registrar Nor Hapipah Abdullah at Bukit Mertajam magistrate's court.
The case was being investigated under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001.
