Johor police probe babysitter neglect after baby's internal bleeding

JOHOR BARU: Johor police are investigating a case of neglect by a babysitter which allegedly led to a two-month-old baby girl suffering internal bleeding in the head.

Iskandar Puteri district police chief Assistant Commissioner M. Kumarasan said a report revealed that the baby was found in a weak state and she was injured when she was picked up from the babysitter's home.

He said the report was received at 1.30am on Sept 5.

The baby had been rushed to the Sultanah Aminah Hospital (HSA) and a CT scan revealed she suffered internal bleeding in the head. She is currently receiving treatment.

"No arrests have been made, and the case is still under investigation.

"The case is investigated under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001, which, upon conviction, carries a fine of up to RM50,000, a maximum imprisonment of 20 years, or both.
