JOHOR BARU: Police believed they have solved six robbery cases that occurred outside banks in Johor and Selangor after an armed robber was shot dead in Jalan Dato 'Onn Utama, here, on Thursday.
State Criminal Investigations Department chief, Senior Assistant Commissioner Kamaluddin Kassim said the robber was a member of a robbery gang known to be active in both states.
"The gang comprised of locals and foreigners and with his death, we believe that six cases, including four in Selangor, were solved," he said.
Kamaluddin said his team are now working to track down the rest of the gang members.
He added that checks showed the dead robber was an Indonesian and his remains was handed over to his relatives yesterday.
It was reported that in the 10.50pm incident on Thursday, a police team from Bukit Aman Special Task Force On Organised Crime (STAFOC) and Serious Crime Unit (D9) of the Johor police headquarters were trailing the suspect in a car.
Upon arrival at Jalan Dato Onn Utama, Bandar Dato Onn, the police ordered him to stop but he rammed into a police vehicle and fired several shots at the policemen.
Police returned fire and in the commotion, the suspect was shot dead.
