Ziana Zain's husband faces heavier sentence under amended charge for injuring son [NSTTV]

SHAH ALAM: Armin Zaharin Ahmad Zambri, the husband of celebrated artiste Ziana Zain, is now looking at a heavier sentence after the prosecution amended his charge of causing hurt to his son on Feb 24.

Armin, who was wearing a grey shirt and jeans, pleaded not guilty before magistrate Raja Noor Adilla Raja Mahyaldin when the amended charge was read to him.

Armin, who is currently unemployed, was accused of causing injuries and bruises to his son’s body with a rotan.

The incident allegedly took place at his home in Denai Alam, between 8pm and 10.30pm, on Feb 24.

He was charged under Section 324 of the Penal Code. If convicted, he faces a maximum 20 years imprisonment or a fine or whipping.

Magistrate Raja Noor Adilla maintained the RM5,000 bail with one surety and set April 5 as the date to submit documents.

Deputy public prosecutor Megat Mahathir Megat Tharif Afendi prosecuted while Muhammad Zufar Elias represented Armin.

On Tuesday, Armin pleaded not guilty to a charge under Section 324 of the same Act for injuring his nine-year-old son.

He was later detained at the Sungai Buloh Prison as no friends or family members paid the bail.

It is understood that Ziana lodged a police report on Feb 27 against her husband, who was arrested by police last Friday to facilitate investigations.
