SUBANG JAYA: Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun has confirmed that police had received orders to reopen investigations into the death of former DAP aide Teoh Beng Hock.
He said the orders were received from the Attorney-General’s Chambers on Tuesday.
“We will look into the investigations again and complete the investigation papers before handing them back to the Attorney-General,” he told reporters after a ceremony at which police received expressway patrol vehicles at Persada Plus.
On Wednesday, Ramkarpal Singh, who is the lawyer for Teoh’s family, had said the A-G’s Chambers had written on July 17 to Fuzi asking for further investigations into the death of the then aide to Selangor assemblyman Ean Yong Hian Wah.
The A-G’s Chambers decision came following a letter written by Messrs Karpal Singh & Co on July 6 enquiring if the case would be reopened.
Teoh had fallen to his death at the Selangor Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) office in 2009, having been called there for questioning to assist investigations into a corruption case.
Magistrate Azmil Muntapha Abas, acting as coroner, had delivered an open verdict two years later, saying that the death could neither be ruled a suicide nor murder.
A Royal Commission of Inquiry that same year ruled that Teoh had been driven to suicide, laying the blame on intensive interrogation by three MACC officers.
However, in 2014 a Court of Appeal panel overruled the open verdict, blaming persons unknown for the death.
Meanwhile, on the murder of Mongolian Altantuya Shaariibuu, Fuzi said investigation papers had already been completed and handed over to the A-G’s Chambers.
However, he declined to elaborate.
