KUALA LUMPUR: Two women who were waiting for their laundry at a self-help laundromat were instead cleaned out of their valuables by two armed robbers on Thursday.
The incident took place in Medan Idaman, Setapak at 4.15am.
The sisters, aged 35 and 41, were sitting in the shop when four men on two motorcycles pulled up outside the store.
Two men, armed with parang, entered the shop and charged towards the women. They ransacked the women’s bags, believed to be looking for jewelry and valuables.
The robbery ended in seconds, with the men fleeing and hopping on the waiting motorcycles.
Wangsa Maju district police chief, Superintendent Noor Azmi Yusoff, confirmed the incident and said the victims lodged a police report.
“The women were the only people in the shop at the time. There were two CCTV cameras in the store and the incident was captured on video.
“However, none of the suspects could be identified as they wore helmets and their faces were covered,” he said.
He said none of the women were hurt in the incident. The case is being investigated under Sections 395 and 397 of the Penal Code for gang robbery and armed robbery.
“The victims lost RM360 cash, two mobile phones and several personal identification documents,” he said.
Pictures and CCTV clips of the incident went viral on social media several days ago.
One of the victim’s siblings had also shared a Facebook posting on the incident, in the hopes of cautioning other women out there to be careful.
