SUNGAI BESAR: Datuk Seri Jamal Md Yunos claimed trial to two charges at the Magistrate's Court, here, today.
Recording a plea of not guilty, the Sungai Besar Umno division chief was charged under Section 323 of the Penal Code with intentionally causing hurt against Pua Jun Jie, 19, in front of Sekolah Kebangsaan Parit 7 Sungai Leman, Sekinchan at 3.15pm on May 9.
If convicted, Jamal would face a year in jail or a fine up to RM2,000 or both.
He was also charged with discarding seizure tapes and removing a closure notice put up by the Sabak Bernam District Office at 3pm on Dec 31, 2016 at the Sekinchan Fisherman Village Hotel and Resort in Sekinchan.
For the second charge, Jamal faces a fine of not more than RM2,000 or jail of not more than a year or both, as well as a fine of not more than RM200 a day as long as the offence continues, if convicted.
The charges were read to him in front of Magistrate Mohd Azali Ibrahim.
The magistrate allowed for bail to be set at RM1,800 for the first charge and fixed Oct 25 for remention.
The prosecution was led by deputy public prosecutor Saphirra Selamat while Jamal was represented by three lawyers; Datuk Mohd Imran Tamrin, Datuk Sulaiman Ismail and Muhammad Nor Tamrin.
