Pakistani driver fled accident scene out of fear, say cops

JOHOR BARU: A Pakistani man sped away after a minor accident involving two motorcyclists along Jalan Tun Fatimah, Kangkar Tebrau, here, yesterday.

The 25-year-old foreigner later lodged a police report, claiming he left the scene as he feared repercussions.

A short clip posted on social media of a barefooted man chasing after a Proton Wira and throwing a crash helmet at it sparked claims of a hit-and-run.

However, Johor Baru (South) police chief, Assistant Commissioner Raub Selamat clarified that the report lodged was on the accident, not the alleged assault as depicted in the viral footage.

He said the accident occurred at 6.30pm, when the foreigner who was driving a Proton Wira exited a junction and attempted a right turn.

A motorcyclist travelling straight on the road crashed into the right front side of the car, while seconds later another motorcyclist approaching from the left, slammed into the vehicle's left side. Both motorcyclists were unable to stop in time, he said.

One of the motorcyclists sustained minor injuries, while the Pakistani and the other motorcyclist were unharmed.

Raub said the Pakistani national was not arrested and an investigation was ongoing. He urged motorists not to take the law into their own hands. Witnesses are urged to contact the police hotline at 07-2182222.
