PETALING JAYA: The remains of Cradle Fund CEO Nazrin Hassan were taken to the Universiti Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC) for a second autopsy.
The process to exhume Nazrin's body which was laid to rest at the Section 9 Kota Damansara Muslim cemetery began at 9am this morning and ended at about 12.30pm.
Selangor police chief Datuk Mazlan Mansor said the exhumation process was carried out carefully.
"The process to exhume the body was done based on procedures set out by Islamic law as well as present provisions of the law.
"For now our focus is the investigation that will be carried out based on the autopsy report which will be carried out soon," he said when contacted.
He added that they are not yet able to ascertain when the entire process will complete, including when Nazrin's body will be reburied.
Meanwhile, Selangor Criminal Investigation Department chief Senior Asst Comm Fadzil Ahmad said the remains were under heavy police protection.
The Court of Appeal this morning dismissed the application by Nazrin's widow Samirah Muzaffar to postpone the exhumation.
The entrance to the cemetery was cordoned off by the police who arrived as early as 8.30am today together with several officers and personnel from the Kuala Lumpur Hospital's Forensic and Pathology Department.
Also present were religious officers from the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (JAIS) and Selangor Mufti Department.
Nazrin died on June 14 in what was earlier reported as having been due to smoke inhalation from a fire caused by an exploding mobile phone in his bedroom at a double-storey semi-detached house in Mutiara Damansara, here.
However, later on it was said that traces of petrol were found on Nazrin's head, bedframe and his mobile phone.
Police have since reclassified the case as murder.
Earlier last month, Nazrin’s brother, Dr Malek Hassan requested for a second post-mortem.
Fadzil said police received a report from Nazrin’s brother on Sept 24, who said he was unhappy with the post-mortem report released by the Kuala Lumpur Hospital.
