ALOR SETAR: The Malaysia Armed Forces (ATM) through the 16th Battalion of the Royal Malay Regiment seized 123kg of ketum leaves estimated at over RM11,000 near the 34 border stone in Bukit Kayu Hitam this evening.
Panglima 6 Brigade, Brigadier General Datuk Abdul Aziz Ismail said the ketum leaves were seized in a shed as the security forces patrolled the area at about 1pm.
The patrol group, led by Major Mohammad Redzuan Jaffar, saw a suspicious shed while patrolling on motorcycles.
“As they approached the shed, they saw two men putting black plastic bags into a white sack. The men fled into the jungle when they noticed the patrol group’s presence,” he said in a statement today.
Checks found one white sack and four neatly tied black plastic bags containing ketum leaves, believed about to be smuggled to the neighbouring country.
All the seized ketum leaves were handed over to Padang Terap District Police Headquarters for further action, Abdul Aziz said. – BERNAMA
