BUKIT MERTAJAM: Eight men including two Malaysians were charged at the magistrate’s court here with trafficking almost 5kg methamphetamine earlier this month.
No pleas were recorded from the accused - Jackson Boh Khim Hean, Aung Soe Thu, Soe Min Aung, Aung Kyaw Thu, Tan Zaw Oo, Tun Ye, Ooi Chieng Sim and Wang Yong - aged between 30 and 50, after the charges were read to them before magistrate B. Pracha Nanthini.
They were charged with trafficking 4.98kg of methamphetamine at a warehouse next to ATTA Global Group Berhad, No. 2521 Tingkat Perusahaan 6, Prai Industrial Estate, at about 10.30am.
They were charged under Section 39 (B)(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
Deputy public prosecutor M. Kalaivanan urged the court not to grant bail for the accused.
Pracha Nanthini fixed Feb 18 for mention.
Following the men’s arrest on Tuesday, police seized RM366 million worth of assets and properties linked to a drug syndicate in an operation, dubbed 'Ops Eagle Diamond'.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Abdul Hamid Bador said police had busted the syndicate in a raid in Butterworth, Penang, last year.
The follow-up operation this month was to identify and seize all assets belonging to the main suspect in the syndicate.
Police believe the main suspect or kingpin, who is from Penang, had fled to another country after the first 'Ops Eagle Diamond' operation was conducted last year.
