TASEK GELUGOR: Unable to get money from his mother to buy illicit drugs, a man ran amok and threatened her at their home here, recently.
This was not the first time the 25-year-old suspect had gone berserk, but in the latest incident, he was most violent.
The man overturned the dining table and threw a helmet at his mother, before threatening to hit her if she still refused to give him the money.
The suspect was detained yesterday afternoon after his father lodged a police report about the incident.
Seberang Prai Utara district police chief Assistant Commissioner Noorzainy Mohd Noor said the suspect, his mother and her 8-year-old granddaughter were at home at the time of the incident.
He added that the victim had related the entire incident to her husband.
“Our investigation showed that this was not the first time that such an incident has occurred, but it was the most aggressive, which struck fear in his (mother).
“The (mother) said the incident was triggered when the suspect failed to get money from her to buy drugs.
“She then fled with her granddaughter to a neighbour’s house until the suspect was detained,” he said today.
Noorzainy said police had seized a helmet, believed to have been used by the suspect during the incident.
He added that a urine test conducted on the suspect tested positive for ‘Mop’ drugs.
“Checks however showed that the suspect has no criminal record,” he added.
The case is being investigated under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation.
The suspect will be remanded today for investigation.
