Paser Puteh man mistakenly shot dead while hunting

PASIR PUTEH: A former armed forces personnel was mistakenly shot dead by his friend during a hunting trip at Kampung Gong Genur near here, last night.

Mohd Sazuki Shafeii, 48, was shot dead by his 69-year-old friend who erroneously thought he was a wild animal.

Pasir Puteh police chief Deputy Superintendent Mohd Azmir Damiri said Sazuki was shot dead with a shotgun from a distance of 200 metres.

“Police received a report on the incident at about 7.50pm when the victim’s friend himself telephoned to inform us.

“An initial investigation revealed that the victim was struck directly in the chest, causing his death,” he said.

Azmir said that Sazuki’s friend has been remanded and the case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.

Meanwhile, Sazuki’s wife, Nik Intan Musnita Nik Mustapha, 44, said her husband left the house to go hunting with his friend at about 2pm.

She was not able to see her husband before he left, as she was in the midst of her prayers. Her son informed her that Sazuki had left for the hunting trip.

Nik Intan said she was informed by family members of what had happened.

The couple have four children aged 5 to 19-years-old.
