KUALA LUMPUR: Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi's daughter and son-in-law will soon be charged with violating the Movement Control Order (MCO).
Datuk Nurul Hidayah Ahmad Zahid and her husband, Datuk Saiful Nizam Mohd Yusoff, will be charged with violating Regulation 3(1) of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Measures within the Infected Local Areas) Regulations 2020.
Criminal Investigation Department chief Datuk Huzir Mohamed said the case was also investigated under Section 269 of the Penal Code for unlawfully or negligently committing an act which the person knows or has reason to believe is likely to spread the infection of any disease dangerous to life.
The two offences carry a six-month jail term and/or fine upon conviction; and a RM1,000 fine or six month imprisonment, upon conviction.
Huzir said the Federal Police's Classified Criminal Investigation Department (CCID) (Prosecution and Legal Division) D5 had opened an investigation paper on an MCO violation by Nurul and Saiful, the evidence of which had been uploaded to an Instagram account.
"Police had taken the couple's statement on April 24 and the investigation paper was then referred to the Attorney-General's Chambers and a directive was received for the couple to be charged under Regulation 3(1) of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Measures within the Infected Local Areas) Regulations 2020.
The couple had allegedly flouted the MCO when they met Deputy Environment Minister Datuk Ahmad Masrizal Muhammad at the Environment Ministry after an earlier meeting with Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Dr Zulkifli Mohamad Al-Bakri.
In one photo featuring the couple, which appeared on Instagram, the accompanying caption read: "After we met the Religious Affairs Minister, we went to the Environment Ministry to meet Datuk Masrizal, the Deputy Minister. We exchanged ideas and held a discussion, which has been YB Datuk Dr Masrizal's and my way (of doing things) since the days when he had been my father @AhmadZahidHamidi's political secretary. A dear friend to our family."
"The police would like to stress again that no one will escape from any action, if they are found to have purposely broken any of the country's laws," Huzir said.
