IPOH: The Perak Health Department is probing a viral picture of a woman wearing a Covid-19 Person Under Surveillance (PUS) wristband enjoying a meal at a restaurant in Bandar Meru Raya, here.
PUS, who are issued pink wristbands which cannot be removed, are under strict home quarantine orders and forbidden to be in public for a 14-day period.
Perak Health Department director Datuk Dr Ding Lay Ming confirmed that the individual in the picture had broken quarantine under the Home Surveillance Order (HSO).
"We will not hesitate to take legal action against the person who failed to comply with this order," she said in a statement today.
The image of the woman, whose face is obscured by an emoji, went viral earlier today.
The HSO order falls under the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988 (Act 342) where, if an individual is found to have violated the ruling, he or she could see action taken against them under Section 24.
Dr Ding added that individuals placed under HOS are reminded to always comply with the Health Ministry's order.
Since June 10, Malaysians returning from abroad are no longer required to undergo 14-day isolation at designated quarantine centres, but can serve the quarantine period in their homes – whether or not they tested positive for Covid-19 upon arrival.
They are given a wristband which can only be removed once they complete the mandatory isolation period, and after testing negative on the 13th day of quarantine.
