GEORGE TOWN: A Bangladeshi man was sentenced to death by the High Court here today for killing his housemate two years ago.
Judicial Commissioner Mohd Radzi Abdul Hamid reached the decision after the prosecution succeeded in proving the case beyond reasonable doubt against Mohammad Jobi Ullah, in his 40s.
According to the charge sheet, Jobi was accused of murdering his countryman, Minto, at Jalan Megat Harun in Bukit Mertajam about 11.15am on March 25, 2018
He reportedly used a rice cooker to hit the victim's head during the incident. Mohammad Jobi was charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
"The court finds the accused guilty and sentenced him to death by hanging," said Mohd Radzi, when handing down his judgment.
Jobi looked visibly frustrated when the court interpreter told him the verdict.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Yasinnisa Begam Seeni Mohideen prosecuted while K. Thanges appeared for the accused.
The defence counsel is expected to appeal the decision.
