JOHOR BARU: 11 employees of a marine engineering company have been arrested by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) today to facilitate the investigation of a case involving ship repair projects.
The suspects, including an operations manager of the company, were arrested in Johor Baru and several locations around Johor following an operation carried out since early Monday morning.
The suspects were accused of receiving bribes totaling RM750,000 related to ship repair projects between 2015 and 2019.
It is understood that the suspects have asked for, and received the bribes from two contractors in exchange of awarding the projects and to expedite the payment process.
The suspects are said to have asked fhe contractors to pay the bribes in instalments.
In a statement, MACC said the suspects aged between 37 and 56 have been remanded until Aug 21.
MACC Investigations director Datuk Norazlan Mohd Razali confirmed the arrests and said the case is being investigated under Section 16(a)(A) of the MACC Act 2009.
