KUALA LUMPUR: The police nabbed 443 people yesterday for flouting the standard operating procedures (SOP) under the Movement Control Order (MCO).
Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said 404 of them were issued compounds, while 39 were remanded by the police.
Among the offences were failure to practise physical distancing (136), interstate and inter-district travels without permission (68), failure to wear face masks (64), failure to provide customer registration logs (84), premises operating beyond permitted hours (29) and others (six).
Ismail Sabri added that the other offences involved individuals who were outdoors without valid reason (20), involved in gambling activities (19), breaching the limit of passengers per vehicle (15), and flouting quarantine orders (two).
He said the MCO task force for SOP compliance led by police conducted 73,266 inspections nationwide.
Premises inspected were supermarkets (4,643), restaurants (6,409), factories (1,784), markets and pasar tani (2,149), banks (4,229), government offices (863), places of worship (3,547), hawkers (2,379) and recreational areas (1,741).
Inspection included land transport terminals (1,268), water transport terminals (276) and aviation terminals (110).
Ismail Sabri said the police, armed forces, Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA), Malaysian Border Security Agency (Aksem) as well as other security and enforcement agencies mounted 543 roadblocks nationwide under Op Benteng (46), Op Penawar (488) and Op Benteng Aksem (nine) on Thursday.
"From the operations, 39 undocumented migrants were nabbed, with a boat and two vehicles seized.
"Authorities found 118 boats within the country's waters during four sightings."
Ismail Sabri said 114 sanitisation operations were conducted nationwide on Thursday.
In total, 16,704 sanitisation operations were conducted under the supervision of the Housing and Local Government Ministry nationwide since March 30 last year.
On Malaysian Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) inspections, Ismail Sabri said it conducted 15,575 checks on 8,808 construction sites nationwide since April 20 last year.
CIDB officers, he said, had inspected 56 construction sites on Thursday and found all SOP were adhered to.
He said the Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry carried out 744 daily inspections on 11 daily essentials at 557 retailers, 155 wholesalers, and 32 manufacturers.
"The ministry's enforcement staff conducted 1,657 operations on SOP compliance checks.
"Of the total, 1,648 premises complied with SOP, while five were given advice for non-compliance, one was issued a warning and three were slapped with compounds."
On Covid-19 screening of foreign workers, Ismail Sabri said the Human Resources Ministry announced that 27 of the 12,763 foreign workers who underwent Covid-19 screening yesterday tested positive for the virus.
He said this brought the cumulative number of foreign workers screened for the virus since Dec 1 to 412,925, involving 19,721 employers.
"Of the total, 7,580 foreign workers tested positive for the virus, while the results for 405,345 others came back negative.
"To date, 1,449 clinics are involved in the screening programme. The screening costs are borne by employers as Covid-19 tests were made mandatory for foreign workers starting Feb 1," he said.
