461 nabbed for flouting SOP yesterday

KUALA LUMPUR: Over 400 people were nabbed for flouting Covid-19 standard operating procedures (SOP) yesterday.

Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said 430 out of 461 people were slapped with the RM1,000 fines, while the rest were remanded.

Unauthorised travel across district and state borders topped the list of offences, at 135 cases.

Other offences include failure to adhere to physical distancing guidelines (128), failure to prepare registration equipment for customers (72), and not wearing face masks (67).

"Seventeen premises were found operating beyond the permitted hours, while the remaining 42 cases were for other offences," he said in a statement today.

Police conducted 70,682 checks nationwide, including at 6,146 restaurants, 4,332 supermarkets, 3,827 banks, 2,719 hawkers, 1,830 factories, and 1,721 government offices.

Also inspected were 1,182 land transport terminals, 268 water transport terminals and 113 air transport terminals.

Under Op Benteng, 11 undocumented foreigners and three boat skippers were arrested, with eight land vehicles seized.

Ismail Sabri also said 90 sanitisation operations were carried out nationwide, involving 32 red zones, eight orange zones, 35 yellow zones and 12 green zones.

"A total of 896 individuals who returned from abroad yesterday were placed under mandatory quarantine."

He also said the Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry (KPDNHEP) conducted special SOP compliance checks at 1,405 premises. Three were issued advice and one was slapped with a fine.
