Company director fined for making false Wage Subsidy Programme claims

JOHOR BARU: A director of a sawmill was fined RM20,000 after he pleaded guilty at the Sessions Court here to two charges of using false documents to make Wage Subsidy Programme (WSP) claims last year.

Eyo Ah Lai, 64, made the plea after the charges were read to him in Mandarin in front of judge Ahmad Kamal Arifin Iamail.

For the first charge, he was accused of using false documents with the name of four ineligible employees to make the WSP claims totalling RM4,800.

He was accused of committing the offence on April 12, 2020 at Syarikat Kim Yoe Timber Trading Sdn Bhd in Simpang Renggam.

For the second charge, he was accused of using false documents with the names of two ineligible employees to make the WSP claims totalling RM4,800.

He was accused of committing the offence on April 23, 2020 at the same premises.

For both offences, Eyo was charged under Section 471 of the Penal Code which is punishable under Section 465 of the same.

Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission prosecuting officer Nur Mahirah Mohd Pauzi appeared for the prosecution while the accused was represented by counsel T. Vijaya Sandra.

Kamal sentenced Eyo to a fine of RM10,000 in lieu of a six month jail sentence for each of the charges.

He also ordered the forfeiture of the amount claimed totalling RM9,600.

The judge also ordered the accused to pay an amount of RM7,780.50 to the company's eligible employees.
