MACC arrests company owners for making false claims

TAWAU: The Sabah Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) today arrested a company owner on suspicion of submitting a false claim, four years ago.

The suspect in his 60s allegedly committed the offence to obtain quotations for two school repair and maintenance work projects  estimated to be worth RM200,000

Sources said the suspect was arrested at about 9am this morning when he appeared to give his statement at the MACC office in Tawau.

"The initial investigation found that the suspect is believed to have committed the act in 2020.

"The suspect had allegedly used fake bank statements to obtain quotations for the renovation and maintenance works project at two schools under the Economic Stimulus Package," he said.

Meanwhile, Sabah MACC Director, Datuk S. Karunanithy when contacted confirmed the man's arrest and said the case was investigated under Section 471 of the Penal Code.

He said, the suspect will be charged in the Tawau Special Session Court for Corruption, tomorrow.
