KUALA LUMPUR: Police arrested 458 people for violating Movement Control Order (MCO) standard operating procedures (SOP) yesterday.
Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said 438 people were slapped with compounds, seven remanded and 13 others released on bail.
Among the offences, he said, were indulging in activities at entertainment centres (260), traveling interstate or inter-district without police permission (90), failure to provide equipment to register customers' details (40), failure to maintain physical distancing (39), not wearing face masks (26) and premises operating beyond permitted hours (three).
"The MCO operations task force headed by the police conducted 70,320 checks yesterday, including at restaurants (6,767), supermarkets (4,668), banks (2,785), hawker stalls (4,256), markets and Pasar Tani (137), factories (2,590), and government offices (898).
"Also inspected were 294 places of worship, recreational areas (18,718) as well as 3,502 land, 1,860 water and 596 air transport terminals," he said in a statement.
On Op Benteng, Ismail Sabri said authorities detained eight illegal immigrants and seized four land vehicles.
"During the operation, the authorities also detected 116 vessels during 10 surveillance activities."
He said the police, the armed forces, the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA), Malaysian Border Security Agency (Aksem) as well as other security and enforcement agencies also mounted 275 roadblocks nationwide on Sunday, for Op Benteng (51), Op Penawar (215) and Op Benteng Aksem (nine).
He said a total of 69 sanitation operations have been carried out nationwide in 23 red zones, five orange zones, 11 yellow zones and three green zones.
"The operations were conducted by 348 personnel from the Fire and Rescue Department, 200 local council staff, and other agencies (five), with 49 fire engines.
"Since March 30, a total of 18,750 sanitation operations were carried out in 149 zones," he said, adding that the operations involved business premises, government offices, housing areas, public places and supermarkets.
He said 808 people arrived at the country's entry points on Sunday and were sent to the quarantine centres.
Since July 24, the Health Ministry screened 144,881 individuals returning from abroad and sent them to 77 hotels, as well as 12 public training institutes and private education institutes for quarantine nationwide.
Of the total, he said, 6,992 people were quarantined, 136,866 allowed to return home and 1,023 sent to the hospital for treatment.
He said a total of 13,736 inspections were carried out by the Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) since Apr 20, last year. The inspection involved 9,143 construction sites nationwide.
Two construction sites inspected on Sunday were found to have adhered to the SOP, he said.
Meanwhile, he said 2,506 foreign workers have undergone the mandatory Covid-19 screening yesterday, with two testing positive for Covid-19.
He said the Human Resources Ministry had reported a total of 618,486 foreign workers had been screened so far, involving 32,002 employers.
