Police arrest two men for cable theft 

KAJANG: Police arrested two suspects and are looking for at least three others, believed to be involved in a few cable thefts in and around the district.

District police chief Assistant Commissioner Naazron Abdul Yusof said the police control room received a public tip-off about a cable theft at Jalan Puncak Saujana, Taman Puncak Saujana at 6.39am on Wednesday, and a team of policemen were immediately dispatched to the location.

"The police patrol team, upon arriving at the scene, spotted two suspicious vehicles, a lorry and a car with five men near the location.

"Police instructed the vehicle drivers to stop, but they sped off. A high-speed chase ensued from Taman Puncak Saujana until Jalan 2/9A, Section 2, Bandar Baru Bangi, where police arrested two suspects, aged 18 and 20, who were travelling in the lorry. The rest of the suspects in the car somehow managed to flee," he said.

Naazron said police are still trying to locate the remaining three or more suspects' whereabouts.

"Police also seized several items related to the theft, including two rolls of black cable, 48 cable wire pieces, wire cutting equipment and three machetes from the suspects".

He added that both suspects have been remanded for three days until tomorrow, to assist in the ongoing police investigation.

"The case is being investigated under Section 431A of the Penal Code for mischief by injury to telegraph cable and wire. If convicted, the suspects could face imprisonment of up to two years or a fine, or both.

"The case is also investigated under Section 6(1) of the Dangerous Weapons Act 1958, a conviction could lead to imprisonment of up to two years and corporal punishment," Naazron said.

He also welcomes the continuous cooperation and support from the community to help police serve better.

"Members of the public with information related to the cable theft incident or the remaining suspects still at large may contact the nearest police station or Investigating Officer Inspector Hafifi Noni at 016-3335139 to assist with the investigation," he said.
