Pakistani fined, jailed for bribing cop

JOHOR BARU: A Pakistani man was fined and jailed after he pleaded guilty at the Sessions Court here to a charge of bribing a policeman at a road block earlier this year.

Imran Khan, 38, was accused of giving a necklace to a policeman at a road block at the Bukit Gambir toll plaza in Muar as a reward for not taking action against him for travelling interstate from Selangor to Johor without permission.

He was accused of committing the offence on Feb 6 at 4.30am.

Imran Khan, a factory supervisor, was charged under Section 17(b) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2009.

Judge Datuk Ahmad Kamal Arifin Ismail sentenced the accused to a fine of RM10,000 and a day in jail after he pleaded guilty to the charge.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Suhaili Sapun appeared for the prosecution while the accused was unrepresented.
