BATU PAHAT: An Indonesian man caught in a viral clip breaking the windshields of parked vehicles at a bus terminal here was charged at the magistrate's court here today with three counts of various offences.
Ramadhani, 25, from Lombok, who is unemployed pleaded to all of the charges, which were read to him by the court interpreter before Magistrate Nurasidah A Rahman.
For the first charge, Ramadhani was accused of deliberately committing mischief by breaking the rear windshield wiper of a 36-year-old woman's vehicle parked in front of the Batu Pahat Bus Terminal at 11.05am on Oct 20.
He was charged under Section 427 of the Penal Code for committing mischief and causing damage, which carries the maximum five years' imprisonment, a fine or both upon conviction.
Ramadhani was also charged with entering the country with a valid travelling pass or permit at a clothing store in Jalan Soga here at 2.50pm on the same day.
The accused was charged under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 and sentenced under Section 6(3) of the same Act.
The court then sentenced Ramadhani to a fine of RM1,000 for the first charge and RM8,000, in default of 15 months' imprisonment, for the second charge.
As for the third charge, Ramadhani was found in possession of a scheduled weapon, namely a 19cm folding knife, at the same time, place, and date.
He was charged under Section 7(1) of the Corrosive and Explosive Substances and Offensive Weapons Act, which carries a penalty of up to 10 years in prison.
As this case is beyond the jurisdiction of the magistrate's court, the court has set Nov 4 for the case to be mentioned at the Sessions Court.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Farah Wahidah Mohd Sharip prosecuted while the accused was not represented.
Meanwhile, the accused, who was unable to pay the fines, was sent to Kluang Prison to serve the jail sentence.
