Smuggled rice, immitation jeans worth more than RM70,000 seized

RANTAU PANJANG: The General Operations Force (GOF) seized smuggled rice and immitation jeans worth more than RM70,000 early today.

However, no one was arrested in the two separate operations carried out in Tanah Merah and here.

GOF Ninth Battalion commanding officer Superintendent Nor Azizan Yusof said in the first operation, the GOF members seized 10 tonnes of smuggled rice at a house, which was still under contruction in Tanah Merah.

"The GOF members went to the house in Kampung Limau Purut about 2am following a tip-off.

"After raiding the place, they found various brands of rice worth RM44,930," he told a press conference here today.

In the second operation at Taman Rantau Mas, here, Nor Azizan said the battalion seized 380 pieces of immitation jeans worth RM28,600.

"The immitation jeans which were packed in several plastic packages, were found abandoned near the housing area about 3.30am," he added.

Nor Azizan said initial investigations showed the two items were smuggled into Kelantan via the many illegal jetties along the border.

"We also suspect that the rice and the immitation jeans will be distributed to local suppliers." he said.
