KUALA LUMPUR: Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor said the corruption charges brought against her were nothing more than an evil and cruel act by the prosecution to target her even though she had done nothing wrong.
She said she was also absolutely surprised of being dragged to court as she had played no role whatsoever in helping a company bidding to supply solar hybrid energy to rural schools in Sarawak, secure the RM1.25 billion project.
"I never wrote a single word of support on any piece of paper to help the company get the project.
"These charges against me are just a cruel act against me by the prosecution," she said.
Rosmah said she was being made a scapegoat and claimed the prosecution was closing both eyes even though they knew of wrongdoings committed by others in the case against her.
She said this as she continued with her testimony under oath after being ordered to enter her defence against charges of soliciting RM187.5 million from Jepak Holdings to help the company secure a project to supply solar energy to rural schools in Sarawak.
She is also accused of receiving RM6.5 million to ensure the company got the project.
However, Rosmah said others, including former Education Minister Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid, former Education Ministry secretary general Tan Sri Madinah Mohamed and Datuk Seri Alias Ahmad, and her former aide Datuk Rizal Mansor, had been let off scot free.
"The prosecution is happier to call them as witnesses against me without also dragging them to court and face charges.
"This is done so they can all get together and point the finger at me even though I had no position whatsoever in the government to influence anyone to award the project," she said.
Rosmah also questioned the prosecution's failure to call several witnesses who she claimed could have shed light on her innocence, including property tycoon Tan Sri Desmond Lim and her butlers who had allegedly carried two bags filled with RM5 million cash into her room at former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak's official residence at Seri Perdana.
Throughout her testimony today, Rosmah pointed the finger at Rizal as the main culprit in the dealings with Jepak Holdings.
"I had no inkling whatsoever of Rizal's meetings with the owner of Jepak Holdings and his business partner.
"Rizal went behind my back on his own accord...he used my name to deceive people and demand for money or special treatment. I never told him to do such things because I know it is against the law," she said.
Rosmah also pointed out how Rizal had been living a lavish lifestyle even though it was impossible for him to do so on his civil servant's salary.
"He is a real durjana (evil person) and has been telling the biggest lies in this court throughout the trial," she said before ending her testimony.
Rosmah, who is being defended by Datuk Akberdin Abdul Kader and Datuk Jagjit Singh, will be cross examined by lead prosecutor Datuk Seri Gopal Sri Ram tomorrow.
Meanwhile, the defence indicated to High Court Judge Mohamed Zaini Mazlan that they planned to call two more witnesses - Najib and and former head of the First Lady of Malaysia (FLOM) division in the Prime Minister's Office Datuk Seri Siti Azizah Sheikh Abod, to testify before wrapping up their case.
