CUKAI: A newborn was found dead believed to be stabbed by his own mother in a house here today.
Kemaman police chief Superintendent Hanyan Ramlan said the baby boy had stab wounds to the left side of his chest.
He said other family members were not at home during the incident and initial investigation revealed that the baby was allegedly stabbed by his 15-year-old mother.
"The young mother was said to have sought help from a friend who then contacted a healthcare staff to inform about the birth.
"The healthcare staff then confirmed that the baby was dead and there were injuries believed to be stab wounds on the chest," he said, adding that a police report was lodged at 10am today.
Hanyan said police detained the young mother, adding that investigations were, however, still ongoing.
The baby's body was taken to the Kemaman Hospital for post-mortem examination.
Hanyan said police had also identified a man believed to have raped the 15-year-old.
The mother is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder and the man is being investigated under Section 376 of the same code for rape.
