MACC freezes bank accounts and assets of former Astro CEO [NSTTV]

PUTRAJAYA: The Malaysian Anti -Corruption Commission (MACC) has frozen bank accounts and assets of former Astro Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Datuk Rohana Rozhan worth USD10 million pending investigation.

MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki said MACC was seeking to repatriate the USD10 million from her to be returned.

He said MACC had recorded her statement twice and if there was a need, she would be called again to the commission's headquarters.

"As of now, there is no need but if the investigators find a reason in the course of investigation, they might.

"At the moment, MACC has sought the Attorney General Chamber's help to get more statements from those implicated in the 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) trial in New York. But, this might take some time as we do not want to disrupt the on-going trial there," he said.

Rohana was called twice to the headquarters to have her statement about the USD 10 million mansion allegedly gifted to her by Goldman Sachs Group Inc bank officer Tim Leissner, allegedly using the funds from 1MDB.

In the first statement taken on Feb 17, Rohana spent about nine hours being questioned by MACC investigators. On the second occasion she was questioned for three hours last Wednesday.

It is learnt that she had also provided several documents related to the investigation during the second interrogation session.

"MACC is investigating the case under Section 4 (1) of the Anti-Money Laundering and Terrorism Financing Act 2001," he said when met at the MACC headquarters here today.
