JOHOR BAHRU: Police confirmed that the dog seen in a viral video being pulled by a car with a rope in Taman Sri Skudai belonged to the vehicle's passenger.
North Johor Bahru district police chief Asst Comm Rupiah Abd Wahid said investigation into the nine-second video found that the incident took place at about 2pm, two days ago.
He said they managed to track down the MyVi's driver and passenger for further investigation.
"The 34-year-old man and his 61-year-old mother claimed the dog was their pet who had gone missing and was found in the area.
"They found the dog in a dirty state and infested with fleas, and they figured it was not suitable to have the dog inside the vehicle.
"The woman used a rope and pulled the dog from the front passenger window as the car was driven slowly," he said in a statement.
Rupiah said both mother and son had been released on police bail after their statements were recorded.
He added that the investigation paper had been referred to the Johor deputy public prosecutor's office for further action.
The case was investigated under Section 428 of the Penal Code or Section 44(1)(a) of the Animal Act 1953.
