PUTRAJAYA: Non-governmental association Laskar Siber Malaysia has lodged a report with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) over an article by an online portal which contained a letter by Maybank Investment Bank Bhd (Maybank IB).
Its president Datuk Lokman Adam said the letter published via Malaysia Today was on the appointment of Maybank IB as strategic adviser regarding the establishment of SRC International Sdn Bhd.
"The document, if proven to be true, shows that judge Datuk Mohd Nazlan Mohd Ghazali when he was the head of Maybank's corporate and legal services department, company secretary and group general counsel had a link to 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) and SRC," he told the media in front of MACC's headquarters here.
Lokman added that Malaysia Today had disclosed a copy of the minutes of the Maybank meeting regarding a loan worth RM6.17 billion by 1MDB.
"The document showed Nazlan's involvement in the 1MDB transaction."
Lokman said in another revelation by the portal on the minutes from the 1MDB board of directors meeting, the establishment of SRC was proposed by Maybank, and not by former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, as mentioned by Nazlan in his judgment.
He added that when Nazlan was appointed as the judge in the SRC case involving Najib, it could be translated as a conflict of interest.
"Nazlan should have at that time withdrawn from hearing and deciding on the SRC case, or at least disclosed his relationship with 1MDB and SRC. Unfortunately, he failed to do both."
Lokman added that all the documents if proven to be true, may indicate that the narrative and perspective of the SRC case were incomplete and possibly biased.
"To uphold justice for Najib, MACC must, without any pressure and transparently, disclose the results of their investigation and the authenticity of the documents."
Lokman said MACC's chief commissioner is not only responsible for his position, but also the public and justice.
"As such, we request that MACC's chief commissioner disclose the results of their investigation as soon as possible.
"We hope the MACC will not be intimidated by any threats from those who are afraid of the truth being revealed.
"We stand firm in supporting every action of the MACC in bringing the real criminals to justice."
Najib was found guilty of all seven counts of abuse of power, criminal breach of trust and money laundering in the SRC case.
He was sentenced to 12 years in jail and fined RM210 million for misappropriating RM42 million through SRC.
In December last year, the Court of Appeal upheld the decision, and Najib is currently appealing the decision at the Federal Court.
